About Us

Invicta Marine Ltd was established in July 2010 after taking over the business of SMM Propeller Services Ltd of Gravesend following the retirement of Laurie Gardener. Laurie will retain a role as a consultant for Invicta Marine Ltd.

The owners / directors of Invicta Marine Ltd are Kevin Archer and Chris Yates. Kevin Archer established SMM Propellers with Laurie Gardiner in 1987 and has many years of propeller repair experience. Chris Yates has been involved with the repair of controllable pitch propellers and thruster units in partnership with Kevin Archer operating Invicta Marine Propulsion LLP.

Andy Church had been employed by SMM Propellers for many years as a propeller repairer / welder and joins the company as Repair Manager carrying out the day to day running of the workshop and propeller repairs. Our intention is to recruit and train a welder to assist Andy Church.

Our new workshop is located within the Historic Dockyard at Chatham, with easy access from the M2 motorway. A building has been fitted out as a propeller repair workshop using many of the specialist items from the previous Gravesend premises.

We can provide a repair service for all types of propeller from small aluminium outboard types to large CPP blades. We have Lloyds welder certification for aluminium bronzes and stainless steels. Specialised welding repairs can also be carried out on pump and waterjet impellers, bronze castings, stainless steel items etc.

New propellers can be supplied correctly sized to the vessel type after discussion with us about the vessel and engine characteristics.

The company operates a quality control procedure to BS EN ISO 9001:2008 and undergoes an annual audit to ensure compliance. A ‘Propeller Route Card’ system is used for each repair job to record all tasks carried out during the repair process.

Our customers include River Thames fast ferry and cruise boat operators, Government agencies, tug boat operators, fishermen and a wide range of pleasure boat owners.

Please contact Invicta Marine Ltd for further information or to discuss any propeller repair or new supply.
